William Kapell
Pianist
American pianist who released numerous recordings of classic songs with an emphasis on the Russian composers from the 18th and 19th centuries.
He studied at The Julliard School and won his first music competition at 10 years old.
His name was given to the University of Maryland's William Kapell International Piano Competition in 1986.
His father was of Spanish-Russian and Jewish ancestry, and his mother was Polish. He died in a plane crash in 1953.
He studied with Olga Samaroff at The Julliard School.
