William Congreve

English Restoration dramatist and poet who is best known for his 1700 work The Way of the World and other comedic plays.
He was born in England, but spent most of his childhood in Ireland.
He was involved in politics as a member of the Whig party.
He never married, but he fathered the child of Henrietta Godolphin, the Duchess of Marlborough.
He was a good friend of author Jonathan Swift, whom he met at Trinity College, Dublin.
