Nebraska Representative who ran unsuccessfullyfor president three times and served as Secretary of State under Woodrow Wilson. He is credited with inventing the idea of the stumping tour at a time when politicians gave most of their speeches from home.
He was a gifted orator, which helped him a lot in his law practice.
He banned the teaching of evolution in public schools, which lead to the their Scopes Monkey Trial, where he took the stand and embarrassed himself by claiming that the bible should be taken literally.
His wife also began studying law and passed the bar to help him in his casework.
John T. Scopes was the schoolteacher who purposefully broke his edict against the teaching of evolution in order to bring it to trial.
