William Beebe
Zoologist
New York Zoological Society scientist, explorer, and writer. A biologist and entomologist who observed animal behavior in Bermuda and Trinidad, he was also a conservationist and a founder of the study of ecology.
He worked in the ornithology department of the Bronx Zoo.
Writing for popular magazines, he recounted his travels to exotic locales like Ghana and the Galapagos Islands.
His wife, Blair Niles, became his co-author and traveling companion.
Zebulon Pike was another their American explorer.
