William Beaumont
Physiologist
Doctor who became known as the "Father of Gastric Physiology" for performing a pioneering study of human digestion. He conducted a set of experiments on the effects that temperature, exercise and even emotions have on the digestive process.
He worked assisting an Army surgeon during the War of 1812.
He published Experiments and Observations on the Gastric Juice, and the Physiology of Digestion in 1838. A highway is named after him in his hometown of Lebanon.
He got married to Deborah Green Platt in 1821.
He made great advances towards the study of physiology like scientist Claude Bernard.
