Wilhelm Rontgen
Physicist
German physicist, who, in 1895, produced and detected electromagnetic radiation in a wavelength range, which today are known as X-rays. For his work he won the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901.
In 1869, he graduated with a Ph.D. from the University of Zurich.
Working with a substance that gave off invisible light, he found the light went through most objects, but not human bones.
His family moved from Germany to the Netherlands when he was three.
He won the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901 two years before Marie Curie did.
