Architect, theorist, and industrial designer who became Dean of the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Founded the Europe-based architecture and design studio, Wiel Arets Architects.
He studied at the Technical University of Eindhoven where he came under the influence of Paul Valéry and Giorgio Grassi. He was named Professor of Building Planning and Design at the Berlin University of the Arts.
His work included the Euroborg Stadium in the Netherlands and the Utrecht University Library.
His father was a book printer and his mother was a fashion designer. They instilled in him a love for books, reading, and being the best possible craftsman in one's profession.
He sought to carry on the innovative legacy of such legendary architects as Frank Lloyd Wright.
