Motorcycle Racer
Retired Grand Prix motorcycle road racer best known as a three-time 500cc World Championship winner and a one-time Daytona 200 winner. He is a member of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame and the International Motor Sports Hall of Fame.
He got his start in the dirt track series A.M.A. Grand National Championship, becoming one of the 20 best dirt track racers in the country by 1981.
He was featured prominently in the 2003 motorcycle racing documentary "Faster."
He is one of three children born to Sandy and Ila Rainey. His father was a construction worker and an avid go-kart enthusiast.
He and fellow American Ben Spies are both multiple-time AMA Superbike Champions.
