Award-winning author and illustrator of children's books such as "Millions of Cats" and "The ABC Bunny." Her "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Nothing at All" both won a Caldecott Honor Award.
She studied at the Saint Paul School of Art and at the Minneapolis School of Art.
Her children's book "Millions of Cats" won a Newbery Honor Award in 1929. At the beginning of the 21st century, the book remained in print throughout the United States and held the record for being the oldest American picture book still in print.
She was one of seven children born to Minnesota-based artists.
Her book "Millions of Cats" influenced the work of children's book author and illustrator Maurice Sendak.
