Wally Hickel
Politician
Member of the Alaskan Independence Party who held office as the 2nd and 8th Governor of Alaska. He also served as the 28th United States Secretary of the Interior from 1969 to 1970 in the Nixon Administration.
He made his first political splash by helping Alaska become a state in 1958.
He was fired by the Nixon administration after he wrote a letter which was critical of Nixon's Vietnam War policies.
He fathered six sons with his second wife Ermalee Hickel.
He was heavily involved in Dwight Eisenhower's Administration during attempts to earn Alaska's statehood.
