Stage and screen actress who married playwright Harold Pinter and starred in many of his productions, including The Room, The Lover, and The Homecoming. She also received an Oscar nomination for her role in Alfie, a 1966 film.
She met her future husband during a production of Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution.
Her husband's philandering left her deeply distraught, and she drowned her sorrows in alcohol, dying from alcoholism at the age of fifty-three.
She married Harold Pinter in 1956; their son was born two years later.
She was a friend of renowned stage actor Gawn Grainger.
