Vittorio Sgarbi
Politician
Known for his written and televised Italian cultural and arts commentary, he also held office as Mayor of Salemi, Sicily, and served in the Italian Chamber of Deputies from 1994 until 2006.
During the 1990s, he hosted an Italian current events program called Sgarbi Quotidiani.
An outspoken and somewhat controversial figure, he not only vocally opposed gay marriage, but also heterosexual marriage. Also, although an occasional defender of the Roman Catholic Church, he professed himself to be an atheist.
He was born and raised in Ferrara, Italy. He later represented Italy's Veneto constituency in the Italian Parliament.
He and former adult film actress Ilona Staller were both controversial members of the Italian Parliament.
