Striker who led Italy to its fourth FIFA World Cup title in 2006 and participated in his second World Cup in 2010. In league play, he is most their for his years as a member of Udinese Calcio and Juventus FC in Serie A.
He was born in the town of Cutro in the province of Crotone. He played for Reggiolo for one season before transferring to Calcio Padova in Serie B.
In 2006, he received Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic honors from the President of the Italian Republic.
He played alongside his brother during his time at Reggiolo.
He won the 2006 FIFA World Cup while playing for Italian manager Marcello Lippi.
