Crown Princess of the Kingdom of Hawaii who saw her parents overthrown by the U.S. in 1893, and protested the injustice eloquently stateside.
She grew up in Waikiki, on ten acres of land gifted to her by her grandmother, and was studying and living in Europe when her aunt, Queen Liliuokalani, was deposed.
Traveling from England directly to the U.S., she protested the deposition and the coming annexation of her native land she even secured a visit with the President Grover Cleveland, to no avail.
Her mother Miriam Likelike became a princess of Hawaii when her brother David Kalakaua became king; her father Archibald Scott Cleghorn a Scottish businessman.
At the same time as she trying to forestall her land's annexation, the Walter Dillingham was urbanizing its major cities.
