Actor, boxer, and veteran who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in 1935's The Informer. His performance in the 1952 film The Quiet Man earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
He left home at age of 14 in order to join the British Army, but he was discharged after his true age was discovered.
He worked as a wrestler and a heavyweight boxer in Canada. He later returned to the British military during World War I and was named Heavyweight Champion of the British Army in 1918.
He was married three times and was the elder brother of actor Cyril McLaglen.
He was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance opposite John Wayne in The Quiet Man.
