Known best for founding ASAPROSAR (The Salvadoran Association for Rural Health), this physician and health activist also directed the Salvadoran office of Habitat for Humanity International.
After graduating from Mexico's Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolas de Hidalgo, she worked in rural health clinics in El Salvador.
Her humanitarian honors include the Salem Award for Human Rights and Social Justice and an honorary law degree from the College of the Holy Cross.
She was born and raised in Santa Ana, El Salvador.
She and Florence Nightingale both worked for rural access to healthcare.
