Vereen Bell
Novelist
American novelist known for his novels Swamp Water and The Renegade Queen. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was killed during active duty.
He attended Davidson College and graduated in 1932.
As of 2014, Davidson College, his alma mater, awards the Vereen Bell Award for creative writing in an attempt to honor his memory.
He was born in Cairo, Georgia and attended Davidson College in North Carolina.
Jean Renoir directed the film of his novel Swamp Water.
