Vera Chytilova
Director
Pioneer of Czech cinema who directed the controversial 1966 film Daisies.
She had a strict Catholic upbringing and studied philosophy as well as architecture in college.
Her film Daisies was banned in Czechoslovakia until 1967 because of its depictions of wasting food. However, the film won the Grand Prix at the Bergamo Film Festival.
She married cinematographer Jaroslav Kucera.
She and Old School director Ivan Reitman were both natives of the Czech Republic.
