Three-time winner of the Golden Arena Award for Best Actor at the Pula Film Festival. His performance in Moment earned him the 11th Moscow International Film Festival award for Best Actor.
He studied at the Drama Academy in Belgrade.
He was on the jury at the 1981 Moscow International Film Festival, and was elected to Serbian Parliament in 1990.
He married his wife Lula in 1960. He had two children.
He and actor Goran Visnjic were born in former Yugoslavia.
