Retired French midfielder who rose to prominence for his club career between 1990 and 2004, when he retired as a member of Lorca Deportiva CF. As a manager, he led Sevilla FC to three straight UEFA Europa League championships between 2013 and 2015. He'd go on to manage Arsenal in 2018.
He made his La Liga debut at age 24. He spent most of his professional soccer career in the Segunda Division of La Liga. He began his managerial career upon his retirement in 2004.
He led Paris Saint-Germain to the Coupe de la Ligue championship in 2016 as manager. He had previously finished as the Copa del Rey runner-up in 2015-2016 as manager of Sevilla.
His father, Juan, and grandfather, Antonio, were also professional soccer players.
He helped manage team captain Thiago Silva and the rest of Paris Saint-Germain to their 7th Coupe de la Ligue championship in 2016-2017.
