Affiliated with the Communist Party, this politician became ninth President of Vietnam in 2011. Previously, he had held a number of other political offices, including Chairman of the Vietnamese Council for National Defense and Security and Executive Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
After earning his undergraduate law degree from Vietnam's National Academy of Public Administration, he was put in charge of both the Forestry and Economic Development departments of Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2013, he discussed issues of international trade with American President Barack Obama.
He was born in Vietnam's Long An Province. He later married Mai Thi Hanh.
During Sang's administration as President of Vietnam, Nguyen Tan Dung held office as the country's Prime Minister.
