Widely considered one of the most important figures in contemporary Vietnamese music. He specialized in love songs and anti-war songs, a few of which were banned by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
He matriculated from the Lycee Jean-Jacques Rousseau School where he studied Western Philosophy.
His funeral was second only to Ho Chi Minh's funeral in terms of attendance.
He was born and raised in Hue, Vietnam. He and his father lived in Hue's Thừa Phủ Prison when he was 10.
He was often compared to American musician Bob Dylan in terms of style and sound.
