Italian pop singer known for his international hit song "L'Italiano." With his band, Albatros, he performed many other original songs, including "Serenata," "Emozioni," and "Figli."
Before taking up singing, he pursued a career as a drummer. He also became proficient in saxophone, piano, and acoustic guitar.
He was the champion of the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest.
He married Carla Cutugno and fathered a child through another relationship.
A songwriter as well as a singer, Cutugno penned some of singer Joe Dassin's best-known songs, including "Et si tu n'existais pas" and "Le Jardin du Luxembourg."
