Over his 19-year major league career, he hit 49 inside-the-park home runs and helped the Pittsburgh Pirates win four National League pennants and one World Series title.
He grew up in Cleveland and worked in a printing shop while playing semi-pro baseball part-time.
He was only five foot six inches tall, but once led the National League in home runs.
He had two children with his wife Sara.
He played alongside legendary Hall of Famer Honus Wagner on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
