The 1994 winner of the James Beard Foundation's Best Northwestern-region Chef Award, this founder of such Seattle restaurants as Dahlia Lounge, Palace Kitchen, and Lola's also penned a popular cookbook titled Tom Douglas' Seattle Kitchen.

He began his culinary career by working as an assistant chef at Wilmington, Delaware's Hotel DuPont.

He operated a Prosser, Washington farm that supplied much of the produce for his Seattle restaurants.

Family Life

He and his wife, Jackie Cross, became parents to a daughter named Etta and opened a restaurant, Etta's Seafood, in her honor.
