Brother of actor and former NFL Pro Bowler Bubba Smith; also played in the NFL and starred in movies.
He earned his nickname, Tody, in junior high school; it was derived from the spanish word toro (bull), in reference to his large physique.
He played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1971 until 1972, the Houston Oilers from 1973 until 1976, and the Buffalo Bills for the 1976 season.
He married model and actress Chae Castillo.
He acted in The Hollywood Knights, which featured both Tony Danza and Fran Drescher in their debut performances.
