Tim Winton
Novelist
Known for his Man Booker Prize-nominated novels Dirt Music and The Riders, this acclaimed Australian writer also penned several children's books, including The Bugalugs Bum Thief and the Lockie Leonard series.
His debut novel, An Open Swimmer, was published while he was a student at the Curtin University of Technology. The book was awarded The Australian's 1981 Vogel Literary Award.
He created The Tim Winton Young Writers Award to encourage children in Perth, Australia, to write short stories.
A native of Western Australia, he lived in France, Greece, Italy, and Ireland before settling in his home country with his wife and children.
His Australian literary contemporary, Felice Arena, also penned popular children's books.
