Played for 17 seasons and was considered an excellent all-around third baseman.
He won the Golden Spikes Award for being the best college baseball player in the country in 1979.
He was called up to the Montreal Expos in September 1980 and hit a home run in his very first at-bat.
He had three sons, Matt, Brett and Chad, all of whom were drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He played alongside Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter for several years with the Montreal Expos.
