He played collegiate golf at the University of Georgia, leaving when he was 20 years old to play professionally.
His PGA career ended due to complications from Lyme Disease in 1991; he eventually recovered and played on the Nationwide Tour.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia.
Early in his career he was mentored by the legendary Sam Snead.
