He attended Lowndes County High School in Georgia.
The Indians took him in the first round of the 1997 draft.
His brothers J.D. and Stephen both won World Series with the Boston Red Sox, though they weren't teammates on the championship club.
Versatile right-hander John Smoltz was his teammate on the Braves.
