Forward who won the Rugby World Cup with Australia in 1999 and the Currie Cup with Western Province in 1986 and 1989.
He made his debut for the Springboks in 1992.
He earned a record 156 caps for Western Province during the team's "Golden Era".
He returned to South Africa to settle with his family after his retirement.
He won the 1999 Rugby World Cup alongside Australian vice-captain George Gregan.
