He and his brother were in a band called Suicidal Tendencies in high school.
He won a grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for his work on the track "These Walls" from To Pimp a Butterfly.
He was born Stephen Bruner from South Central Los Angeles. His father was the drummer for Diana Ross and the Temptations.
He appeared live with Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald in Chicago.
