Scotsman best remembered as the founder of the Lipton Tea Company. During his life, he appeared on the cover of Time magazine and was knighted by King Edward VII.
He gained a passion for sailing as a cabin boy on a ship in the 1860's.
He was an avid yachtsman who participated in the America's Cup several times and was inducted into the America's Cup Hall of Fame in 1993.
His parents were Frances and Thomas Lipton.
He was friends and yachting partners with King George V.
