Thomas Campbell
Poet
Scottish poet who became known for his sentimental verse and patriotic songs. His works include "The Pilgrim of Glencoe," "Ye Mariners of England," and "The Soldier's Dream."
He was one of eleven children born to Alexander and Margaret Campbell.
He served for a decade as editor of the New Monthly Magazine.
He wed his cousin, Matilda Sinclair, in 1803.
Several of his relatives traveled to and lived in Virginia. One of his brothers even married the daughter of American politician and orator Patrick Henry.
