Thom Mayne
Architect
Helped establish the Southern California Institute of Architecture in 1971 and the Santa Monica-based architectural firm, Morphosis.
He studied at the University of Southern California and the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He trained under urban planner Ki Suh Park and spent some time living in the Campaign for Economic Democracy commune.
He received the Pritzker Prize in 2005.
His family was residing in Waterbury, Connecticut, when he was born. He married architect Blythe Alison-Mayne.
He and architect Walter Gropius both taught at Harvard University.
