Theo Bleckmann
Jazz Singer
German-born jazz vocalist and composer known for his experimental, otherworldly musical style. His acclaimed recordings include I Dwell in Possibility, Hello Earth!, and Origami.
His earliest recordings, collaborations with pianist Kirk Nurock, include Theo & Kirk and Looking-Glass River.
He taught vocal jazz classes at The New School, New York University, Queens College, and the Manhattan School of Music.
Before beginning his career in music, he was an amateur ice dancing champion in his native Germany. He moved to the United States in the late 1980s on the suggestion of his musical mentor, jazz singer Sheila Jordan.
He received a Grammy nomination for his 2008 recording of twelve pieces by modernist composer Charles Ives.
