He was arrested multiple times for dealing drugs in the 60's.
He was sentenced to death in 1971 but was spared when the California Supreme Court invalidated all death penalty sentences before 1972.
He married Kristin Joan Svege from prison and had four children with her as a result of conjugal visits.
He was a member of the so-called "Manson family", led by folk singer-turned-cult leader Charles Manson.
