Known for his more than two hundred children's books, this bestselling English author is perhaps most their for his Horrible Histories and Master Crook's Crime Academy series.
In his early years, he worked for an English electricity company and toured with a drama troupe called Theatre Powys. Before beginning a full-time career as a writer, he also worked as a drama teacher.
In 2000, the University of Sunderland awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Education.
A native of Sunderland, England, he later settled in Burnhope, County Durham, with his wife Jenny and daughter Sara.
His Horrible Histories books were turned into a popular television sketch comedy series starring Simon Farnaby.
