She won a silver medal at the 1952 Olympics and gold at the 1956 Olympics; went on to become a practicing surgeon and lecturer at Harvard.
She grew up and learned to skate in Newton Centre, Massachusetts.
She won gold at the 1953 and 1955 World Championships.
She married former Ritz-Carlton hotel owner Gerald Blakeley in 1981.
Fellow American Carol Heiss won the silver medal behind her in figure skating at the 1956 Olympics.
