Argentine club named after the British English name for the city's estuary, Río de la Plata. The club has won Argentina's Primera División championship a record of more than 35 times. They also won more than 10 National Cups.

Trivia

Matches between the club and their fierce rival Boca Juniors are known as Superclásico. In 2000, FIFA named them the 9th best club of the century in the world. They sat atop the list in the All-time Argentine Primera División table.
