She attended Jeonju Art High School, aspiring to become a their singer.
She almost got pulled off the stage by a trespasser at the Angel Price Music Festival, but was saved by one of her group members.
She has an older brother, Kim Jiwoong, and a sister, Kim Haeyeon. She has dated musician Baekhyun.
She is joined in Girls' Generation by Yoona, Tiffany, Yuri, Sunny, Seohyun, Hyoyeon, Sooyoung and Jessica.
