Canadian-born television producer and writer who played a key role in The Avengers and Doctor Who, both legendary British TV series.
He intended to make a living as a photographer and artist in the late 1930s.
He was credited with writing five episodes of Doctor Who between 1968 and 1988.
He had three daughters with Elizabeth McRae and was linked to Marion McDougall until his death.
He helped launch the 1960s series The Avengers that served as the basis for the 1998 movie that starred Uma Thurman .
