Svetlana Alexievich

Author known for her works The Boys of Zinc and Voices from Chernobyl, both of which were first-hand accounts.
She worked as a correspondent for the literary magazine, Neman.
She was given the National Book Critics Circle Award for Voices from Chernobyl in 2005.
She was born to a Belarusian father and a Ukrainian mother.
She left Belorussia after facing persecution from the Alexander Lukashenko regime.
