Known as the president and leader of the 21st century Marada Movement in Lebanese politics. He has also served as a Member of the Lebanese Parliament for the Maronite seat in Zgharta, northern Lebanon.
He began his professional life in the military at age 17 in the Marada Brigades. He was first elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in June 1991.
He served as Lebanon's Minister of Public Health from April 2003 through October 2004. He subsequently served as Minister of the Interior and Municipalities from October 2004 through April 2005.
He is the son of assassinated militia leader Tony Frangieh, and grandson of Lebanon's former president Suleiman Frangieh. He has three children from two marriages.
He grew up and remains close friends with the Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad.
