American electrical engineer who invented the digital camera in 1975. President Obama awarded him with the National Medal of Technology and Innovation in 2009.
He graduated from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in electrical engineering in 1972.
His original digital camera model took black and white photos and weighted eight pounds.
He grew up with family in Brooklyn, New York.
President Barack Obama honored him with the most prestigious medal U.S. engineers can earn in the East Room of White House in 2009.
