Rock Singer
Lead singer and songwriter for the alternative rock band Barenaked Ladies.
He and Ed Robertson were rivals in elementary school. The rivalry lasted until high school when they saw each other at a Peter Gabriel concert. Their mutual interests led to the formation of Barenaked Ladies.
He was arrested for possession of cocaine in 2008. He subsequently left Barenaked Ladies in 2009.
His mother was Ashkenazi Jewish and his father was of an Anglo Protestant background. He was married twice before wedding Christine Benedicto in 2011. He fathered three sons from a previous union.
He performed Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen at the funeral of New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton.
