Drummer with the alternative rock band Sonic Youth, which he first joined in 1985.
He was among the original members of the punk band, The Crucifucks, after having played in the mid-Michigan bands Faith and Morals and Strange Fruit.
He formed the Hoboken, New Jersey-based indie record label Smells Like Records, aiding the careers of Cat Power and Blonde Redhead.
His family was residing in Midland, Michigan, when he was born.
His record label reissued five of Lee Hazlewood's titles in 1997.
