He has co-hosted the TV program MSNBC Live. His work has been published in the New York Daily News, Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The Daily Beast.
He publicly came out as gay in a column written for Salon Magazine in 2011.
He and Krystal Ball served as co-hosts of the MSNBC TV series The Cycle in 2013.
