He entered the Mesquite Opry competition when he was nineteen years old and was discovered by Wilbur Rimes, the father of LeAnn Rimes.
His song, "Brand New Girlfriend," won the record for the slowest climb to a #1 position on the Billboard charts in 1990.
He was born the youngest of eight children.
He recorded a cover version of Hank Williams Jr.'s song, "All for the Love of Sunshine."
