He played for Southern Illinois University before being drafted by the Baltimore Orioles.
In 2003, he led the league in triples at the age of 38, the oldest player in history to do so.
He had five children with his wife Amy.
He hit 36 home runs in 2004, the third most for a 39-year-old behind Barry Bonds at the time.
